We previously demonstrated that human herpesvirus 6A infects papillary thyroid cancer cells (BCPAP), inducing molecular changes compatible with a tumor-promoting phenotype, including increased expression of R273H mutant TP53 (mutp53), upregulation of c-Myc, and enhanced secretion of IL-6. The gene discussed is MYC; the disease is thyroid gland papillary carcinoma.
