Inflammatory burden was highest in gout and rheumatoid arthritis, intermediate in psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, and lower in connective tissue diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, mixed connective tissue disease, Sjogren's disease, systemic sclerosis, and dermato/polymyositis) and osteoarthritis; CRP distributions were more strongly right-tailed than ESR. This evidence concerns the gene ESR1 and systemic sclerosis.
