As a proof of concept for their potential application in drug screening, a subset of T1D and ND SC-beta-cell lines was treated with three anti-diabetic compounds, each influencing insulin secretion through distinct mechanisms: the sulfonylurea tolbutamide, the GLP-1 receptor agonist liraglutide, and the glucokinase (GCK) activator LY2608204. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is type 1 diabetes mellitus.
