The α-Klotho, referred to as Klotho (symbol Kl and KL for rodents and humans, respectively), is an anti-aging gene whose disruption shortened the lifespan of Kl-hypomorphic (kl/kl) as well as Kl-knockout (kl−/−) mice by inducing the premature-aging syndrome in comparison to wild-type (WT) (kl+/+) mice [1,2].
