Reports describing nuclear localisation of RPL22L1 in glioblastoma, together with studies showing phosphorylated RPS6 in specific tumour microenvironments, suggest that some ribosomal proteins may perform functions outside the ribosome under certain conditions, although these observations should be interpreted cautiously in light of the available evidence (Shirakawa et al., 2020; Lindström, 2025). Here, RPS6 is linked to glioblastoma.
