The mechanism of such acute cardiomyopathies is thought to relate to the surge in levels of cytokines such as IL-6, interleukin-8 (IL-8), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and interferon gamma (IFN-γ) that occur during CAR-T therapy, and act to both directly and indirectly impair cardiac function. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and cardiomyopathy.
