Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is abundant in healthy lung of tissue (Onoue et al., 2007), modulating immune responses and exerting anti-inflammatory effects by interacting with specific receptors on immune cells (Misaka et al., 2010); thus, VIP functions as a potent anti-inflammatory mediator in asthma (Verma et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene VIP and asthma.
