The increased expression of FAS and TNFR1 in astrocytes, along with increased GFAP mRNA expression and positive correlations between TNFRs and GFAP mRNAs in high-inflammation schizophrenia, suggests that reactive astrocytes could be the main source of FAS/TNFR1 in the inflamed midbrain. This evidence concerns the gene TNFRSF1A and schizophrenia.
