Studies have shown that CRC cells commonly overexpress anti-apoptotic proteins, such as B-cell lymphoma-2 (BCL-2), B-cell lymphoma-extra large (BCL-xL), and myeloid cell leukemia 1 (MCL-1), while downregulating or inhibiting the function of pro-apoptotic proteins such as Bcl-2-associated X protein (BAX) and Bcl-2 antagonist killer (BAK).35 This evidence concerns the gene BAX and colorectal carcinoma.
