A 32-base pair deletion in the CCR5 gene, called CCR5Δ32, prevents (inhomozygosity) or reduces (in heterozygosity) the expression of the CCR5 protein on thesurface of leukocytes, and therefore this variant may have an influence on CCR5-mediatedinflammatory responses observed in parasitic infections (Ellwanger et al., 2020 a ). The gene discussed is CCR5; the disease is parasitic infectious disease.
