miR-146ais an important microRNA that regulates inflammation by inhibitingthe NF-κB pathway., However, in periodontitis, despite overexpression of miR-146a, increases in IL-1β and TNF-αhave been observed, indicating that its effect alone may be insufficient. This apparent contradiction can be explained by the complexity ofinflammatory signaling networks. This evidence concerns the gene NFKB1 and periodontitis.
