The first clinical trial to show beneficial effects of targeted anti‐inflammatory therapies in cardiovascular disease was the CANTOS trial, in which IL‐1β blockade resulted in a 26% relative risk reduction for the composite of nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke or cardiovascular death in patients with previous myocardial infarction [161]. This evidence concerns the gene IL1B and myocardial infarction.
