We also assessed transcripts encoding two T-protective allele binding proteins for correlations with potential target genes, observing a positive correlation between the transcriptional repressor REST, as well as POU2F1, and CASP8 in melanocytes (REST, P = 7.21 × 10−11; r = 0.58; POU2F1, P = 8.40 × 10−3, r = 0.25), a weak negative correlation for POU2F1 in TCGA melanomas (P = 0.04, r = −0.11), and a positive correlation for REST in the Leeds Melanoma Cohort (P = 1.75 × 10−14, r = 0.30) (Table S25). The gene discussed is POU2F1; the disease is melanoma.
