Despite its well‐recognized role in ethanol metabolism, previous studies [13–15] have shown that ALDH2 plays a critical protective role against myocardial injuries, including septic cardiomyopathy, alcoholic cardiomyopathy, diabetic cardiomyopathy, and myocardial ischemia–reperfusion injury. This evidence concerns the gene ALDH2 and myocardial ischemia.
