As part of the TABASCO study (Tel Aviv Brain Acute Stroke Cohort), Kliper et al. observed that elevated serum CRP 72 h within an ischemic stroke was associated with cognitive impairment within 7 days of stroke, but the authors concluded that the association vanished upon adjustment for covariates (Assayag et al., 2012; Kliper et al., 2013). The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is ischemic stroke.
