Surge of procoagulants may be secondary to the release of the von Willebrand factor (vWF) from an injured endothelium or from hypoxia-mediated hypercoagulability (Masi et al., 2020) producing an imbalance of the physiologic anticoagulant-procoagulant homeostasis leading to a hypercoagulable state. Here, VWF is linked to thrombophilia.
