The BISC study of individual participant data (IPD) in 8,420 patients with prior stroke or TIA and 18,920 person-years of follow-up, demonstrated that baseline IL-6 measured after stroke or TIA was independently associated with recurrent MACE (RR 1.12, 95% CI 1.04–1.21) and recurrent stroke (RR 1.09, 95% CI 1.00–1.19) per unit increase in loge IL-6, after adjustment for vascular risk factors and treatment. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is transient ischemic attack.
