When BISC data was stratified by stroke etiology, IL-6 was associated with recurrent MACE in those whose index stroke/TIA was caused by large artery atherosclerosis (LAA) (adjusted RR 2.30, 95% CI 1.21–4.36), but also for stroke of undetermined cause (adjusted RR 1.78, 95% CI 1.19-2.66) and small vessel occlusion (adjusted RR 1.71, 0.99–2.96), but not for cardioembolic stroke (highest [Q4] vs. lowest quarters [Q1] of the distribution). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and Stroke.
