Nimotuzumab is a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody (mAb) used in Asia for the treatment of HNSCC, which targets the extracellular domain III of EGFR, hence impeding epidermal growth factor (EGF) binding and sterically preventing receptor dimerization, resulting in decreased cellular proliferation, angiogenesis, pro-apoptotic signals, and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) [2]. This evidence concerns the gene EGFR and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
