Patients who received inappropriate empirical antibiotics therapy were more likely to be mechanically ventilated at bacteremia onset, 20% (47/234) vs. 11% (100/898), p < 0.001), have higher creatinine levels and lower albumin levels, 1.47 (0.98–2.52) vs. 1.26 (0.87–2.01), p = 0.02 and 2.95 (2.5–3.5) vs. 3.2 (2.7–3.5), p = 0.02, respectively.
