ATF5 induces the expression of a large number of genes, including the antiapoptotic BCL2 or MCL1 genes, and in some models, some pro-apoptotic genes, such as the cyclin D1 gene CCND1, and genes associated with increased (DVL1, EGR1, vascular endothelial growth factor [VEGFA] and other hypoxia-inducible factor 1 [Hif1] target genes) or decreased (ID1) tumorigenesis, and increased (ITGα2, ITGβ1) tumor cell invasion [124]. This evidence concerns the gene CCND1 and neoplasm.
