Our observation that colon cancer tissues exhibit higher PFKFB3 expression than rectal cancer tissues further underscore the metabolic heterogeneity within CRC subtypes and aligns with our previous findings of elevated PFKFB3 in monocytes of colon cancer patients, pointing to a subtype-specific role for this metabolic pathway in disease pathogenesis [13].
