Given that modulating PLIN2 can mitigate steatosis (e.g., octreotide treatment reversing PLIN2 increase in obese rats [39], targeting PLIN2 synthesis represents a potential therapeutic avenue for NAFLD.The significant elevation of serum PLIN2 levels found in this study is strongly supported by robust experimental evidence demonstrating PLIN2’s critical regulatory role in hepatic lipid droplet stability and its contribution to steatosis, reinforcing its potential as a clinically relevant biomarker for NAFLD. The gene discussed is PLIN2; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
