It encodes a tumor necrosis factor receptor which activates nuclear factor kappa B and induces apoptosis.45 In a functional pathway cluster analysis using human microarray datasets that investigated the effect of DEX versus control medium on TM tissue, TNFRSF21 was found in two (apoptosis, adipogenesis) of the nine functional pathway clusters identified by the authors to synthesize the molecular response to DEX exposure in TM cells.46 It has also been found to be downregulated in TM from patients with POAG compared to controls.47 This evidence concerns the gene TNFRSF21 and open-angle glaucoma.
