We also show that depletion of hnRNP C, HuR, and PTBP1, the binding partners of DplUSE, in a human cell line, affects the expression of several genes from the pool of the 31 DplUSE-containing genes that are common to zebrafish, mouse, and humans and that are enriched for association with human diseases such as nervous system diseases, congenital abnormalities, and malignant neoplasms. This evidence concerns the gene ELAVL1 and cancer.
