CD8A and coronary artery disorder: Viral DNA, which is usually undetectable in HCMV-seropositive healthy individuals, has been found in the urine, blood, or blood cells of elderly individuals.9, 10, 11, 12 While there have been no reported cases of clinically significant HCMV reactivation in healthy elderly individuals, we and others have shown that the increased number of HCMV-specific CD8 T cells in circulation is associated with an increased risk of coronary diseases, frailty, and mortality.13, 14, 15, 16 In contrast, HCMV seropositivity in elderly individuals does not appear to be linked to any adverse health outcomes.17
