PRNP and scrapie: Experimental studies in goats found that heterozygous Q/K222 and homozygous K222 goats either showed resistance to classical scrapie or exhibited clear delays in incubation times after intracerebral or oral inoculation (20–23) and reduced contribution of K222 to proteinase K–resistant PrP (PrPres) formation in Q/K222 heterozygous goats infected with scrapie (24).
