We next applied the integrated pipeline to explore the bioenergetic phenotype induced by knockout of Parkin, a PD-related mitophagy gene known to affect mitochondrial Giguiere and colleagues previously measured increased basal OCR and unchanged maximal OCR in dopaminergic neurons from the substantia nigra of Parkin knockout mice, but a decrease in ATP content (Fig 6A) [50]. This evidence concerns the gene PRKN and Parkinson disease.
