CRP and bacterial infectious disease: Furthermore, PCT, a specific marker for bacterial infection, showed superior predictive performance for SSI compared to CRP (in this study, PCT pod3 OR = 1.50), which is highly consistent with the conclusions of Javad Parvizi et al. (34), who found that PCT is more sensitive than CRP and WBC for the early diagnosis of deep SSI, especially in orthopedic implant surgeries.
