ADAR and frontotemporal dementia: During the treatment of nerve cells with poly-proline-arginine DPR (poly-PR), it was observed that the inhibition of ADAR1 activity mediated by poly-PR contributes to the neurotoxicity associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), suggesting that ADAR1 holds the potential to mitigate neurotoxicity (Suzuki and Matsuoka, 2021).
