In different cancers, JUP exhibits dual effects: in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), it plays a tumor suppressor function by inhibiting the β-catenin/TCF signaling pathway (Winn et al., 2002); while in malignant tumors such as breast cancer and leukemia, its high expression is associated with poor prognosis (Morgan et al., 2013; Goto et al., 2017). The gene discussed is HNF4A; the disease is leukemia.
