MAPT and Alzheimer disease: AD is a multifaceted chronic neurodegenerativedisease with multiplerisk factors including but not limited to genetics (familial), epigenetics,environment (exposure to metals, pollution), sleep, diet, severe headinjuries (traumatic injuries), infections (bacteria, viruses), andaging-related other illnesses. Whileamyloid and tau pathologies were identified as pathological markersin AD brain that contribute to cognitive dementia, inflammation inthe brain (aka, neuroinflammation) was viewed as a bystander in thedeveloping AD brain for several decades.
