A study of COVID‐19 in a non‐small cell lung cancer cohort found that high ICOS expression correlated with high ACE2 expression in normal lung tissue (ACE2 being the receptor that permits COVID‐19 cellular penetration) and suggested that high ICOS expression may predispose to the inflammatory/cytokine over‐reaction that causes serious COVID‐19 pneumonia [89]. This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and lung cancer.
