Consistent with this proposal, p62 is aberrantly overexpressed in multiple types of cancer (e.g., breast, kidney, liver, and lung cancer), correlates with poor cancer patient prognosis, and has been demonstrated to promote tumor cell proliferation and tumorigenesis (Thompson et al., 2003; Rolland et al., 2007; Duran et al., 2008; Mathew et al., 2009; Moscat and Diaz-Meco, 2009; Inami et al., 2011; Inoue et al., 2012; Li et al., 2013). This evidence concerns the gene SQSTM1 and lung carcinoma.
