In fact, it has been reported that aldo-keto reductase family 1 member B10 (AKR1B10), which is a key enzyme of the retinol metabolism [60,61,62], is overexpressed in the liver of patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) compared to those with simple hepatic steatosis (SS) and controls [63,64].
