The VISION study, a randomized clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the first VEGF inhibitor, pegaptanib, demonstrated that the mean BCVA gradually decreased in eyes with exudative AMD at 54 weeks despite 6-weekly intravitreal administration of pegaptanib in 1186 eyes with exudative AMD, irrespective of the three concentration types—0.3 mg, 1.0 mg, and 3.0 mg [12]. Here, VEGFA is linked to age-related macular degeneration.
