This study provides further evidence for the role of CB1R activation in the modulation of HPC network dynamics, demonstrating specifically heightened susceptibility of the theta-generating networks in adulthood induced by sub-chronic adolescent exposure to CB1R agonist, thereby offering a potential neurobiological link to the epidemiological associations between early cannabis use and increased risk of developing schizophrenia. This evidence concerns the gene CNR1 and schizophrenia.
