SIRT3 and metabolic syndrome: In mice with metabolic syndrome and SIRT3 gene deletion (SIRT3−/−) fed a Western diet, impaired mitochondrial respiration in the brain, enhanced insulin resistance, neuroinflammation, and β-amyloid plaque deposition were observed, along with reduced enzyme activity in several metabolic pathways, including fatty acid oxidation and the tricarboxylic acid cycle [143].
