BRCA1 and ovarian carcinoma: One female participant opted for prophylactic BSO and was found to have early-stage ovarian cancer (high-grade invasive serous carcinoma of the fallopian tube with serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma, FIGO stage IA), which is a common ovarian cancer subtype associated with the BRCA1 gene [28]; this was followed by adjuvant chemotherapy with excellent clinical outcomes, and the patient has remained disease-free post-surgery, with no recurrence reported at her last follow-up.
