The qRT-PCR was performed, assessing the expression of a broad panel of markers, namely genes encoding well-known markers of stem-like cells (Nanog, Oct4, CD90); proteins involved in cancer cell migration, invasion, and interaction with extracellular matrix (Vimentin, N-cadherin, CD44, Nestin; although Nestin is also a marker of stem-like cells); and proteins involved in cancer cell signaling and metabolism (Notch1, Notch2, Cox1, Cox2, Cox7A2, Nox1, Nox2, Nox5) (Figure 2).
