Two studies found elevated levels of AQP9 in the blood of pregnant women experiencing preeclampsia or gestational diabetes (GDM).20,21 Another study showed that AQP4 levels were higher than normal in children with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.22 The only study evaluating AQP1-3 levels was conducted by Hong et al. in adult patients with colon cancer, and it was observed that AQP levels were increased in these patients.23 To the best of our knowledge, this is the first preliminary report for serum AQP1-3 levels in term neonates.20,21. This evidence concerns the gene AQP9 and perinatal asphyxia.
