EGFR and non-small cell lung carcinoma: Although initially developed to overcome the EGFR T790M resistant mutation, osimertinib is now used as a primary treatment because of its superior blood-brain barrier penetration, as evidenced by the results of the phase III FLAURA trial [3], which compared the effects of first-line osimertinib with those of other EGFR-TKIs in patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC.
