HLA-E gene expression showed variation across common AML gene fusions; in particular, compared to cytogenetically normal AML, HLA-E expression was lowest in promyelocytic leukemia (PML)/retinoic acid receptor α (RARA) fusion gene (p=0.00016) and highest in GATA2-MECOM (p=0.00479) compared to normal karyotype based on the Beat AML dataset (Figure 2A) and validated in the TCGA dataset (Supplementary Figure 4A). Here, GATA2 is linked to acute myeloid leukemia.
