Further supporting these findings, in immune thrombocytopenia, reduced soluble and membrane HLA-G expression, along with decreased ILT2/ILT4 receptors levels on CD4+ T cells and monocytes has been reported and upon treatment with recombinant HLA-G, ILT expression was restored and cytokine production shifted toward an anti-inflammatory profile (22). The gene discussed is HLA-G; the disease is autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura.
