In a large population-based study (KORA F4/FF4 cohort), circulating levels of CCL7, CXCL10, and DNER partially mediated the association between obesity and incident distal sensorimotor polyneuropathy, supporting the hypothesis that chronic subclinical inflammation is a mechanistic link between obesity and neuropathy [2]. The gene discussed is CXCL10; the disease is neuropathy.
