CD44 and colonic neoplasm: Concerning lipid metabolism, a strong expression of fatty acid synthase (FASN) and ATP-citrate lyase (ACYL) is known to occur during colon cancer [48,49], and their inhibition was found to impair metastatic progression in colon cancer cells by reducing CD44 and hepatocyte growth factor receptor-mediated signaling, resulting in reduced tumor cell migration and in vitro clonogenicity [50,51,52].
