Receptor dysregulation has been implicated in the pathophysiology of BMS.Immunohistochemical studies have demonstrated increased expression of transientreceptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) and cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1), alongwith decreased expression of cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2), in the oral mucosa ofBMS patients [42]. This evidence concerns the gene CNR2 and burning mouth syndrome.
