EGFR and hypopharyngeal carcinoma: Epidermal growth factor receptor is overexpressed in 80% to 90% of hypopharyngeal carcinomas and has been identified as both an oncogene and a therapeutic target.[12] Cetuximab, the first epidermal growth factor receptor-targeted drug approved for hypopharyngeal cancer, has demonstrated promising results, with improved prognosis when added to treatment regimens.[13] Janoray et al compared the efficacy of radiotherapy + cetuximab versus radiotherapy + cisplatin after induction chemotherapy with the TPF regimen for hypopharyngeal cancer.
