In line with this, deficiencies in Hcy‐thiolactone–detoxifying enzymes, including paraoxonase 1 (PON1) and bleomycin hydrolase (BLMH), have been linked to Alzheimer's disease pathology (Jakubowski 2024), suggesting that inadequate clearance of Hcy‐thiolactone contributes to neurodegenerative risk. Here, BLMH is linked to early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
