Transcriptomic analyses of CD8 T cells from patients with autoimmune disorders such as antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and type 1 diabetes revealed that a gene expression signature resembling that of exhausted CD8 T cells in chronic viral infection correlated with reduced relapse frequency and sustained remission [27, 28]. The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is Autoimmunity.
