A recent GWAS in a multi-ancestral cohort of juvenile-onset and adult SLE patients (N = 940 total; N = 71 osteonecrosis) established links between an intronic variant in WIPF1 (WAS/WASL interacting protein family member 1) and increased osteonecrosis risk independent of glucocorticoid exposure [85]. This evidence concerns the gene WIPF1 and systemic lupus erythematosus.
